myNews

Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the myNews Android application handles information when you choose news providers, read feeds and articles, use country-based recommendations, translate content, use the home-screen widget, contact support, view advertisements, and purchase or restore the optional remove-ads entitlement.

Effective: July 24, 2026 Last updated: August 3, 2026
Important current behavior: publisher pages opened inside myNews allow first- and third-party cookies so publisher consent systems and sites can function. The WebView uses mixed-content compatibility mode, which may allow some insecure subresources on an otherwise secure page. See sections 5 and 11 for details.

1. Scope, operator, and contact

This policy applies to the Android application named myNews, package news.coverage.sources.articles.headlines.mynews. The app is developed and operated by xType. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “the developer” refer to xType.

myNews is an independent news aggregator, reader, and discovery tool. xType does not write, edit, or publish the third-party articles displayed by the app. Each article is attributed to its original news provider. xType does not control the privacy practices, content, availability, or accuracy of independent publishers, advertising providers, or other third-party services.

For privacy questions, requests, or other inquiries about myNews, email FontsApp@protonmail.com.

This published policy page is a static HTML document with no developer-added analytics script, form, or cookie. Its web-hosting and network providers may still process ordinary request information such as IP address, browser user-agent, date and time, requested URL, and security logs to deliver and protect the page under their own policies.

2. Information the app accesses or stores

Information Why it is used Where it goes or stays Your control
Advertising data Deliver, personalize or limit, measure, analyze, and protect native ads. Google Mobile Ads and participating ad-technology providers may receive IP address, ad and app interactions, diagnostic information, advertising ID, app set ID, other device or account identifiers, and, where available, Android ad-topic or attribution signals. Use UMP privacy choices where available and manage the Android advertising ID in system settings.
Consent and privacy signals Determine whether ads may be requested and which advertising rules or choices apply. Processed by Google UMP and stored on the device and/or communicated to Google and applicable ad providers. Respond to the privacy message and reopen Options → Privacy choices when that entry point is required.
Remove-ads purchase information Offer, complete, acknowledge, and restore the optional remove-ads entitlement. Payments are processed by Google Play. myNews receives the product identifier, purchase state, purchase token, acknowledgement state, and entitlement status, but not your payment-card details. The entitlement is also cached in private app preferences. Choose whether to purchase. Manage the transaction through Google Play, or clear app storage to remove the local cached status; the entitlement can be restored from Google Play.
Approximate device location Derive a country for the “My country” provider list. Processed through Android location and geocoding services. myNews stores the resulting country code, not latitude or longitude. Deny or revoke location permission. The app then uses the device region.
Country code and preferences Remember providers, feeds, blocks, theme, paywall filter, translation settings, first-run choices, provider-search text, selected screens or tabs, and scroll positions. Stored in private app preferences. Android may include eligible preferences in cloud backup or device transfer. Change settings, clear app storage, manage Android backup, or uninstall the app.
Widget content and settings Display and periodically refresh headlines from your selected providers on the Android home screen. While at least one widget is installed, myNews may fetch feeds, translations, and images in the background. Up to 20 headline snapshots, links, the refresh interval, and widget position are stored in private preferences; thumbnails are stored in the app cache. Change the interval on the widget, remove every myNews widget to stop its scheduled refresh and clear widget content, use Delete cache for thumbnails, or clear app storage.
Favorite article snapshots Keep a saved article card readable if its publisher later changes or removes the live article. Original and translated headlines and summaries, provider metadata, dates, links, and private copies of available card artwork are stored in the app's private files and preferences. Remove the favorite to delete its private artwork, or clear app storage or uninstall myNews to remove all saved favorites. The regular cache-deletion control keeps favorite snapshots intact.
News feeds, metadata, and images Show headlines, summaries, dates, sources, provider icons, and article images. Requested directly from publishers or their delivery networks and temporarily cached on the device. Choose active providers and feeds; clear the cache in Options.
Article-page activity Load a publisher's article in the in-app browser. Sent directly to the publisher and its website partners. First- and third-party cookies, JavaScript, and website storage may be used. Do not open the page, use publisher controls, or clear the app's storage.
Text used for translation Identify language and translate visible headline or article text. Processed on-device by ML Kit. Original and translated text may be cached in private app storage. Turn automatic translation off or clear the cache.
ML Kit diagnostics and usage data Provide, secure, maintain, and improve Google's on-device ML services. Sent to Google as described in section 6. Google states that translation input and output are not sent to its servers by the on-device translation API. Keep automatic translation disabled if you do not want the translation feature invoked.
Rating-prompt activity Decide when to ask whether you want to rate myNews. A small article-return counter and whether you accepted the prompt are stored only in private app preferences. Choosing to rate opens the myNews listing in Google Play. Dismiss the prompt, clear app storage, or manage any Play activity through Google.
Support email and diagnostics Let you ask for help or send feedback. Only when you choose Send us an email, myNews prepares a message containing app name and version, package name, Android version, device manufacturer/model, device codename, screen size/density, and app language. Your email app shows the message before sending it to xType; if sent, xType also receives your email address, message, and anything else you include. Review, edit, or cancel the message before sending. Do not include unnecessary sensitive information. You may request deletion from xType by email.

3. Google Mobile Ads and UMP privacy messaging

Ad delivery

myNews uses the established Google Mobile Ads SDK (Legacy) to display native ads inside the news feed. The SDK may contact Google and participating ad-technology providers to select, deliver, render, measure, and protect ads. The developer may receive AdMob reporting such as impressions, clicks, estimated earnings, performance, and other aggregated or reporting-level advertising information.

Google states that the Mobile Ads SDK automatically collects and shares the following categories for advertising, analytics, and fraud-prevention purposes:

  • IP address, which may be used to estimate the device's general location;
  • user interactions, including app launches, taps, ad interactions, and video views;
  • diagnostic information, including SDK or app performance, launch time, hang rate, and energy usage; and
  • device and account identifiers, including the Android advertising ID, app set ID, and other applicable identifiers.

The current Google Mobile Ads dependency also adds Android Ad Services permissions for Topics and Attribution Reporting. Where those platform features are available and enabled, the SDK may use coarse on-device interest topics for ad selection and privacy-preserving attribution information for ad measurement. Availability and user controls are provided by Android and Google; the developer does not receive a list of your installed apps from these permissions.

Google states that Mobile Ads SDK data is encrypted in transit. The exact providers, purposes, retention periods, and legal grounds may depend on the ad request, region, consent selection, AdMob configuration, and provider. Review the privacy message and the linked provider disclosures for current details.

Consent and privacy choices

myNews uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request updated consent information when the app starts. Mobile Ads is initialized only after UMP indicates that ads may be requested. Depending on your region, applicable law, choices, and the messages configured for myNews in AdMob, ads may be personalized, non-personalized, subject to restricted data processing, or limited.

When UMP reports that a privacy-options entry point is required, myNews displays Options → Privacy choices. The form and available choices are supplied by Google. If no entry point appears, you may still manage the Android advertising ID and relevant Google advertising settings through your device or Google account.

Location and ad requests

myNews does not deliberately attach the approximate coordinates used by “My country” to Google Mobile Ads requests. Google may independently infer a general location from the device's IP address. Publishers opened in the in-app browser may also infer location from an IP address under their own policies.

Advertising references

4. Optional approximate location

myNews requests Android's approximate location permission only to derive a country and show relevant providers in “My country.” It does not request precise or background location permission. If permission is unavailable, myNews uses the country or region configured on the device.

The app does not save latitude or longitude or send coordinates to a server operated by the developer. Android's location provider and geocoder may process location to return a country. Those services are supplied by Google, the device manufacturer, or another provider and are governed by that provider's terms and privacy policy.

5. News publishers, network requests, and WebView

Feed, image, and article requests

myNews connects directly from your device to the providers and content-delivery services you select. Like ordinary internet requests, these connections may disclose IP address, requested URL, date and time, app or browser user-agent, device and network characteristics, and request or response metadata to those services. Publishers may use this information for delivery, security, analytics, personalization, advertising, and other purposes described in their policies.

Opening an article loads the publisher's website in Android System WebView. JavaScript, first- and third-party cookies, and website storage are enabled because publisher sites and their consent-management systems may require them. These cookies can be set or read by the publisher and by third parties embedded in the page, including analytics, advertising, video, social, security, or consent providers. myNews does not read those cookies for its own backend because it has no developer-operated account or analytics server.

myNews disables website geolocation, denies website device-permission requests, and disables app-file and content access. It uses Android WebView's mixed-content compatibility mode: some insecure subresources may be allowed on an HTTPS page while others are blocked, and Android may change those categories between WebView releases. Certificate errors are rejected.

Information you type or submit on a publisher page is provided directly to that publisher or its partners, not to the myNews developer. Review the publisher's policy before submitting personal or sensitive information.

Home-screen widget and background refresh

If you add the myNews home-screen widget, Android schedules network-dependent refreshes even when the app is not open. The widget uses your selected, unblocked providers and feeds, your paywall filter, and your translation preference. Its current interval is shown on the widget and can be cycled among approximately 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, and 5 hours. Android controls exact job timing. The persisted job can resume after a device restart while a widget remains installed.

A widget refresh requests feeds, translation models or diagnostics when translation is enabled, and available article artwork. It stores up to 20 recent article snapshots in private preferences and stores resized thumbnails in the app cache. Tapping an article on the widget opens its publisher URL in the browser or other handler selected by Android, not in myNews's WebView, so that external app's privacy and cookie settings apply. Removing the last myNews widget cancels the scheduled refresh and clears the widget article snapshots and thumbnails.

Other external links

Options and prompts can open Google Play, Google Translate, this policy page, an email app, or another external website or app only after you select the related control. Those services receive the request and ordinary connection information under their own terms and privacy policies. myNews does not control their cookies, account activity, or retention.

6. Google ML Kit and on-device translation

myNews uses Google ML Kit Language Identification and On-device Translation. Google states that input text and translation output are processed on the device and are not sent to Google servers by these on-device APIs. ML Kit may contact Google to download or update language models, bug fixes, and hardware-compatibility information.

Google states that ML Kit may collect limited diagnostics and usage information, which can include device manufacturer and model, operating-system version and build, available ML hardware, app package and version, device or installation identifiers, performance and utilization metrics, identified languages, and configured source and destination languages. Google states that this information is encrypted in transit.

7. Local storage, backup, and retention

News and translation cache

myNews caches feeds, translated headlines, translated website text, provider icons, and article images in private app storage. Widget thumbnails are stored in the app's cache directory. The cache is size-limited and older entries are evicted as needed. You can delete this material from Options → Storage and cache → Delete cache. The persistent news cache is excluded from Android cloud backup and device transfer. Deleting the cache removes widget thumbnails but not the widget's small headline snapshot, which is replaced on its next refresh.

Preferences and Android backup

Preferences remain until changed, app storage is cleared, or the app is uninstalled. These preferences can include the saved country code, provider and feed selections, blocks, filters, language and appearance settings, provider-list search text, navigation and scroll state, article-view settings, widget state, and rating-prompt state.

Favorite article snapshots remain until you remove the favorite, clear app storage, or uninstall myNews. They are stored separately from the disposable news cache so clearing that cache does not damage a saved favorite card. Removing a favorite also removes its privately cached article image and provider icon.

Depending on Android and your backup settings, eligible preferences and private favorite artwork may be included in Android cloud backup or device transfer under the backup provider's policy. The current app rules exclude the persistent news cache and the local remove-ads entitlement cache; widget thumbnails are kept in a cache directory and are not intended for backup. A backup provider may retain backup copies after the app is removed, so use Android or account backup controls if you also want those copies removed.

Publisher cookies and storage

Publisher first- and third-party cookies and website storage may remain in Android System WebView until they expire or app storage is cleared. The in-app cache deletion control removes myNews news, image, and translation caches; it is not a publisher-cookie deletion control. Clear the app's storage in Android settings or uninstall it to remove WebView data stored inside myNews. Articles opened from the widget use an external browser or handler, whose own deletion controls apply.

Google SDK storage

ML Kit may retain downloaded language models. Mobile Ads and UMP may retain identifiers, consent status, privacy signals, cached ad resources, and other SDK data as needed to operate. Google and advertising providers determine retention for information they receive under their policies and applicable requirements.

Support correspondence

If you send a support email, xType and the email providers involved may retain your email address, message, the diagnostics you leave in the draft, and later correspondence for as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain support records, prevent abuse, resolve a dispute, or meet legal obligations. You may ask xType to delete support correspondence, subject to information that must be retained for legal or security reasons.

8. How information is shared or disclosed

The developer does not operate a myNews account backend and does not sell personal information for money. However, disclosure to Google or advertising providers for personalized or cross-context behavioral advertising may be treated as “selling,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising under some privacy laws. Where applicable, use the UMP privacy message or privacy-options control to exercise available choices.

Information may be processed or disclosed to:

  • Google Mobile Ads, UMP, Android Ad Services, and ad-technology providers for ad delivery, personalization or limitation, interest topics where available, attribution, measurement, analytics, consent handling, security, and fraud prevention;
  • Google Play Billing to offer, process, acknowledge, and restore the optional remove-ads purchase;
  • news publishers, website partners, and delivery networks when your device requests feeds, images, or pages in the app, in the background for an installed widget, or through the external browser opened by a widget article;
  • Google ML Kit for model delivery and SDK diagnostics or usage information, but not translation input or output according to Google;
  • Android, device-manufacturer, geocoding, WebView, security, and backup providers when their related system feature is used;
  • your chosen email app and email providers when you choose to send a support message to xType; and
  • authorities or other parties if disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, security, and integrity.

9. Your choices and privacy rights

  • Advertising privacy: respond to the Google privacy message and use Options → Privacy choices whenever that entry point is available.
  • Advertising ID: reset or delete the Android advertising ID, and manage relevant ad settings, through Android or Google settings.
  • Remove ads: choose whether to purchase the entitlement and manage the transaction through Google Play. A completed entitlement is restored when the app reconnects to Google Play.
  • Location: decline or revoke approximate location permission. “My country” will use the device region.
  • Providers: add, remove, or block providers and feeds within myNews.
  • Translation: leave automatic translation off or disable it in Options.
  • Widget: change its refresh interval, or remove every myNews widget to stop widget refreshes and clear its stored article snapshots and thumbnails.
  • Publisher cookies and storage: use publisher controls where offered. Clear myNews app storage for data held by its WebView; use the external browser's controls for widget-opened pages.
  • Support: review, edit, or cancel the prepared email before sending it, and contact xType to request deletion of support correspondence.
  • Cached content: use the cache deletion control in Options. This does not remove favorites, preferences, WebView cookies, or backup copies.
  • All local app data: clear myNews storage in Android settings or uninstall the app. Manage any cloud backup through Android or your backup provider.
  • Third-party data: exercise applicable rights directly with Google, a publisher, the device manufacturer, or another provider that controls the information.

Depending on where you live, privacy rights may include access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent, opting out of certain advertising disclosures, or complaining to a data-protection authority. Because myNews has no developer-operated account backend, most app preferences and cached content are controlled directly on your device. Contact the developer for questions about information under the developer's control.

10. Children's privacy

myNews is a general-audience news reader and is not designed specifically for children. The developer does not knowingly collect children's personal information through an app account or developer-operated backend. News content, publisher websites, Google advertising, and other providers may have separate age limits and practices. Parents and guardians should supervise use as appropriate.

11. Security and international processing

myNews uses Android private app storage and blocks cleartext app traffic by default. The current network configuration has narrow HTTP exceptions for two publisher RSS hosts, rss.cnn.com and rss.shikoku-np.co.jp, because the app currently has no usable HTTPS feed for those endpoints. On those requests, a network operator may be able to observe or alter the requested feed and response. myNews does not send an app account, password, payment-card data, or location coordinates in those feed requests.

For publisher pages, myNews rejects certificate errors, disables app-file and content access, denies website geolocation and device-permission requests, and uses WebView Safe Browsing when the system provides it. Its mixed-content compatibility mode may allow some insecure subresources. Widget article links are handled by an external browser or app and follow that handler's security settings. Google states that Mobile Ads and ML Kit SDK data is encrypted in transit. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, and the developer cannot guarantee third-party service security or availability.

Publishers, Google, advertising providers, delivery networks, device services, and backup providers may process information in countries other than yours. Privacy laws and protections may differ. Refer to each provider's policy for information about processing locations and transfer safeguards.

12. Changes and contact

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when app features, advertising configuration, dependencies, or legal obligations change. The effective and last-updated dates will be revised when a new version is published. Material changes may also be highlighted in the app or its official distribution listing where appropriate.
