myFiles Android application

Last updated:

Privacy summary: myFiles is primarily an on-device file manager. xType does not receive your files, file names, installed-app list, local browsing history, or playback history. Most file processing remains on your device. Information can leave the device when you deliberately share, open, email, or upload content; when your chosen cloud or backup provider handles it; and when Google Mobile Ads and its consent platform process advertising, device, interaction, diagnostic, and approximate-location information as described below.

1. Scope and controller

This Privacy Policy describes how the myFiles Android application, package name file.manager.explorer.myfiles.folders, accesses, uses, stores, transmits, and shares information. The developer and data controller for information received directly by the developer is xType ("xType", "we", "us", or "our").

This policy applies to myFiles. A third-party application, advertising provider, cloud provider, email provider, app store, backup provider, device manufacturer, or operating system service may process information under its own privacy policy when you use it with myFiles.

myFiles does not require you to create a myFiles account. Connecting a cloud location gives the app access to a location selected through Android; it does not create an account with xType.

2. Information accessed and processed locally

Depending on the features you use and permissions you grant, myFiles can access:

Information Purpose and handling
Files, folders, and file metadata To list and search storage; create thumbnails and previews; open, play, edit, crop, rename, copy, move, archive, extract, verify, share, and delete items at your request. Metadata can include names, paths, types, sizes, modification dates, and folder counts.
Storage volumes To recognize internal shared storage and compatible mounted SD cards or USB drives and make file-management functions available on them.
Android shared-storage trash metadata To show the Deleted items folder, including recoverable item names, types, sizes, modification dates, and scheduled expiration information reported by Android, and to perform recovery or permanent deletion when you request it.
Installed-app information To display the local Apps folder and app details such as label, package name, version, installation and update dates, approximate installed size, icon, installer, and system-app status. This inventory is not sent to xType.
Cloud-location information When you connect Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox through Android's document picker, myFiles stores the provider type, displayed location label, and Android document-tree URI in app-private preferences. It accesses file names, types, sizes, modification dates, and document URIs from that selected location to display and manage it.
Local app preferences To remember settings such as language, dark mode, the last browsed folder, selected file filter, view state, whether virtual folders were opened, and unfinished playback positions. Playback records use a one-way hash of the file path together with file size and modification time rather than storing the path itself in the playback record.

Because myFiles is a general-purpose file manager, files you choose to access may themselves contain personal or sensitive information. The app processes that content to perform the feature you requested. Local access alone does not send that content to xType.

3. Information transmitted off the device or to another app

Google Mobile Ads and consent management

myFiles uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK to request and display native advertisements and the Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) SDK to request, store, and apply advertising privacy choices where required. Google states that the Mobile Ads SDK automatically collects and shares the following information for advertising, analytics, and fraud-prevention purposes:

Google Play data type Examples Purposes
Approximate location IP address, which may be used to estimate the device's general location. Advertising or marketing; analytics; fraud prevention, security, and compliance.
App interactions App launches, taps, and video or advertisement views. Advertising or marketing; analytics; fraud prevention, security, and compliance.
Diagnostics Information such as app or SDK launch time, hang rate, and energy usage. Advertising or marketing; analytics; fraud prevention, security, and compliance.
Device or other identifiers Android advertising ID, app set ID, and, where applicable, other identifiers related to accounts signed in on the device. Advertising or marketing; analytics; fraud prevention, security, and compliance.

Google states that Mobile Ads SDK data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Advertising may be personalized, non-personalized, or limited depending on your region, consent choices, device settings, and Google's requirements. Declining personalized advertising does not necessarily stop all processing needed to deliver limited or contextual ads, measure performance, or prevent fraud. xType may receive aggregated advertising performance and revenue reports from Google, but does not receive your files or installed-app inventory through AdMob.

For Google's current SDK disclosure, see Google Play data disclosure for Google Mobile Ads. For information about Google's data practices, see the Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

User-directed cloud storage

When you deliberately connect and use a cloud location, Android and the selected provider may exchange the selected location's document identifiers and metadata with myFiles. When you choose Upload files, myFiles reads the files you selected and writes their contents, file names, and file types to the chosen cloud location through Android's Storage Access Framework. Creating folders or deleting cloud items also sends the requested action and relevant document information to that provider. xType does not operate an intermediary cloud server and does not receive these files.

Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, and Dropbox process cloud data under their own terms and privacy policies. Disconnecting a cloud location from myFiles releases its Android URI access when possible and removes the locally stored connection reference; it does not delete files held by the provider.

Opening and sharing files

When you select Open with or Share, Android may provide the selected file to the receiving application through a temporary content URI and read permission. The recipient processes the file under its own privacy policy. myFiles does not perform this transfer until you request it.

Support email

If you select the option to email xType, myFiles opens your chosen email application with a draft. The draft includes app version, Android version and API level, device manufacturer, model and device name, screen resolution and density, and app locale. You can review or edit the draft before sending it. If you send it, xType and your email provider receive the email address, message, included diagnostics, and any attachments you add.

Android backup and device transfer

Android backup is enabled for myFiles. Depending on your Android version, device settings, and chosen backup provider, Android may include app-private preferences—potentially including app settings, playback records, and stored cloud-location references—in an encrypted system backup or device-to-device transfer. This process is controlled by Android and the selected backup provider, not by xType.

App-store and system actions

If you ask to view an installed app in an app store, myFiles sends the app's package name to the store application you choose. Android also processes system actions such as permission management, app information, uninstall confirmation, media controls, and home-screen shortcut creation.

4. How information is used

Information accessed by myFiles is used to:

xType does not use file contents, file names, the installed-app inventory, or local playback history for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, marketing lists, or training artificial- intelligence models. The advertising information processed by Google is handled as described in Section 3 and Google's policies.

5. Third-party services and recipients

Information may be handled by the following categories of recipients:

xType does not sell your files, file names, installed-app inventory, or local browsing and playback records. Advertising providers may process advertising information according to their own policies, consent signals, contracts, and applicable law.

6. Android permissions and special access

You can review and change available permissions through Android's App info settings.

7. Storage, retention, and deletion

myFiles does not create a developer-operated account, so there is no myFiles online account to delete. To request access to or deletion of support information held by xType, use the contact details in Section 13.

8. Security

myFiles uses app-private storage for settings and caches, Android content URI grants when handing selected content to another app, persisted URI grants for locations you connect, and integrity verification for supported file operations. Access to managed files is limited by the permissions you grant and Android's security model. Google states that data collected by the Mobile Ads SDK is encrypted in transit using TLS.

Transfers performed by a cloud provider, email provider, receiving application, or backup provider are protected according to that provider's security practices. No application, device, network, or storage service can guarantee absolute security. Keep appropriate backups of important files, review recipient applications before sharing, and install operating-system security updates.

9. Your choices and privacy rights

You can:

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights concerning personal information held by xType, including access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or withdrawal of consent. Since xType does not receive your locally accessed files, installed-app inventory, or local playback records, we cannot retrieve them from your device. Contact the relevant third party for information it controls, or contact xType regarding support correspondence or another direct interaction with us.

If you are in the European Economic Area, you may lodge a complaint with your local data- protection authority. In Greece, this is the Hellenic Data Protection Authority.

10. Children's privacy

myFiles is a general-purpose file utility and is not directed to children below the age at which parental consent is required in their country. xType does not knowingly request that children submit personal information directly through myFiles. The app does, however, use Google advertising and consent services as described in this policy. Parents and guardians should supervise a child's file-management, cloud-upload, sharing, and email actions and use available device and advertising controls.

If you believe a child has sent personal information directly to xType without appropriate permission, contact us so that we can investigate and delete it where required.

11. International data transfers

Google, cloud providers, email providers, and other third parties may process information in countries other than your own. Their processing and international-transfer safeguards are governed by their privacy policies and applicable law. xType may also process support correspondence in Greece and wherever its necessary email and service providers operate, using legally required safeguards where applicable.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, its SDKs, legal requirements, or data-handling practices change. The date at the top identifies the latest version. Material changes will be presented through an appropriate channel, such as an updated in-app policy link or store listing. Continued use after an update is subject to the revised policy, except where additional notice or consent is required by law.
